How to Unlock MTN Huawei e 173 Modem

Unlock Huawei e 173 Modem

Huawei   e173 Modem supplied by MTN  or Airtel comes locked to one network.  You can unlock it to use it with any sim such as Tigo or Vodafon .

What You will Need

1. Firmware update sofware 

2. Universal Master Code

These two software plus Huawei modem connect software can be downloaded here.

Method

1.     Download and extract the zip files from the links above.

2.     Insert your modem into the USB Port of your computer.

3.     Make sure no program is using the modem.

4.     Open Huawei e173 update folder and double click on (E173Update_11.126.85.00.114_B427)

5.  Accept the terms and conditions for e173 updater and click Next

6.  The e173 firmware updater window will now start searching for device.

7.  When you click next after a device has been detected a warning window  appears.

8. If you are prompted to enter a password, start the huawei modem unlocker

9. Type in the IEMI number of your e 173 modem and click generate


10. You will get two codes in the box one is unlock code and the other is flash code.

11. Copy the 8 digit flash code, marked with red ellipse, this 8 digit flash code is the password for the e 173 updater.


Now you can enter this password and and update your firmware to an unlocked version.


If the updater does not ask for a password, you may be asked to enter unlock code if you try to connect to the internet later. Use the unlock code, marked with green ellipse.
